A Day Full Of Strawberries

Firstly my little ballerina did a FABULOUS job last night at her dance recital. Here is a picture of myself and her after the show outside the theatre:

So last night was ballet and tonight is Acro and Jazz routines. We need to actually head out soon but I thought I'd post about our very strawberry day. I LOVE STRAWBERRIES!
I had intended to head out early to go strawberry picking but we didn't quite get out as early as I would have liked. It was a bit on the chilly side this morning and I was waiting for it to warm up a bit. I wanted to be home to watch the soccer game and get atleast a 4 mile run on the threadmill. Well the run didn't happen unfortunately. I did get my weights and sit ups workout in but that was it. This week is defiantely a write off.
Okay so back to strawberry picking. We headed out and my daughter was all geared up for it:

Yes strawberry everything on her. We had a great time, unfortunately the strawberries were not as big and plentiful as usual at this farm but we did get a bucket full and when we got home we made yummy strawberry bread.
Here is the final product:
Doesn't that look yummy! It actually did taste delicious and let me tell you I am a bit surprised. I came up with this recipe myself. I make a yummy banana bread recipe and I looked at that and changed it up a bit to come up with this. (I will have to make my banana bread soon and post). Here is the recipe if you'd like to try:
Bela's Strawberry Bread
3/4 cup soy milk
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup agave nectar
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3 tsp cinnamon
2 cups chopped strawberries
Whisk together soy milk, yogurt, maple syrup, agave nectar, vanilla and eggs. Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon. Mix well. Fold in the strawberries. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake for 55 minutes at 350F.
So strawberry season is here. Do you go strawberry picking? What do you do with all the strawberries? Do you have any favourite strawberry recipes?

  2. I LOVE strawberries. I have not ever gone out to pick them other than at my grandmother's when I was a child. That bread looks so incredible. I'd love a slice right now please.

  4. My aunt has a strawberry patch in her backyard that has the best strawberries. I love going to her house and filling up containers and then making something with this. Next time I go I'll have to try this bread! looks yummy and your daughter is too cute!

  5. How cute are your daughter's glasses! I love strawberries but have never gone picking! Maybe next year I'll get in on the action before they're all gone!

  6. Your daughter is adorable!

That strawberry bread looks delicious. I've actually never really made any baked goods containing strawberries. I tend to just eat mine by the bowlful. ;)

  7. Congrats to your daughter on her bang up job at the recital.

Your strawberry bread turned out beautiful.
We won't go strawberry picking this year, but usually do. I freeze the extras and make a variety of recipes.
