Labour Day Oakville 10K Recap

Was I prepared for this race? NO! Did I care? NO! I just needed to get running. After such a terrible week I really just needed to be one with the road, by myself and think about nothing but the road infront on me. This race did just that!

I had told myself I needed to be in bed by 9pm the following evening but ofcourse that didn't happen. I finally got to bed at 10:30pm and my alarm was set for 5:30am for the 7:30am race start. I was sooooo exhausted when I woke up race day so I knew this was probably going to be my worst race. We got to the start line and waited around for it to start. I saw a friend and fellow runner Cynthia who had an amazing run....you rock!....at the start line. When I started running I knew this was not a running day! The first 1K felt terrible but after that it seemed to be getting better. I did feel a pull on my groin muscle at about 7K and I slowed it down just a bit and tried to shorten my right sides stride. I found that I was alone for alot of this run which I think that is exactly what I needed.

So here I am crossing the finish line:

And here I am with my medal and one of my big supporters, my adorable daughter who was wearing my sweater because she was cold:

So here are my stats:

Official Time - 52:35
Chip Time - 52:30
Offical Rank (out of 364) - 101th
Gender Rank (out of 201) - 30th
Category Rank (out of 30) - 7th

Definately not my best race but not my worst either. So I guess I will take it and just hope it was good training for my half marathon at the end of the month!

  1. Any race is good for training. You had a nice finish; top 15% is nothing to sneeze at so be proud of your run!

  5. Sometimes, after suffering something so stressful, I run my best. I think it's because I'm trying to run away from the pain and stress of it all.
You did great even though you were feeling so burdened. It was what you needed and probably good for your daughter to get out and get around people and see her mom have such an accomplishment after being so down.

  6. There is nothing better than having those races where you just wanna be there. Sometimes, if racing fits into your schedule, you can just do it for some one else, or just to experience it. Glad it turned out well though. Take care.

  7. That is a good race, good attitude and a good picture. Always feel better running a race even if the result isn't perfect. Much better than not running at all and sleeping in.
