Angus Glen 10K Race Recap - Picture Heavy

I have a great race recap of the Angus Glen 10K and with alot of pictures now that DH figured out how to do continuous shutter on our camera.

It was a good drive to the race, only 45 minutes away on the highway. They had everyone park in the field behind the golf club, it was very well organized but it was a bit of a walk to get to the club house. We got to the club house and I had to get my chip and use the restroom (why is the ladies line so long and the mens always empty?). We then headed outside to see the half marathon start, they started at 10am and my race was 10:30am. Here is my daughter and I waiting outside:

It started to get very chilly out so we headed inside to get warm before I had to go line up for my start. We headed outside at about 10:22am and headed into the corral. Here I am feeling very cold. Yes I think that guy beside me is CRAZY....it was really cold:

My thoughts were to just run fast to stay warm. I so hate the cold so I wanted to get this over with already. Here is the start....you can see me peeking out on the left side:

And we are off!

So I started off really strong, again trying to keep warm from the cold. But I think I probably started off too strong. I got a side cramp/stitch at the end of 4 K mark, I got so bad that I had to stop two times, once at 5K and once at 6K mark. It started going away at the 7K mark and then I knew it was catch up time but I never did get my momentum back. We also hit the wind as we turned around to head back at about 7K and it was hard to fight that wind.
Here are my pace stats:

1K - 7:14
2K - 7:46
3K - 8:00
4K - 8:18
5K - 8:20
6K - 8:48
7K - 8:29
8K - 8:18
9K - 8:07
10K - 7:41

So you can definately see where I was struggling with my cramp and then me trying to catch up. I could have been looking at a new PB but I feel short of that unfortunately! Here I am crossing the finish line:

What was my final time? Here are my stats:
Official Time: 50:50
Chip Time: 50:45
Gender Rank: 22 out of 434
Category Rank: 3rd (WOOHOO) out of 66
Yes I am excited about the category rank. Unfortunately I did not know it until I got home. They did not have the time sheets anywhere that I saw at the event which I did not like.
Now my daughter was running the kids 1K. Her race started 10 minutes after my race started which I was disappointed in but hubby was instructed to take lots of pictures. Hubby made sure she was close to the front of the crowd but one of the organizers said that age 8 and under had to go to the back. Well my daughter turns 8 this week so technically she was 7 but she is "fast" so hubby told him that she is 8 but the organizer still wanted her towards the back, I guess because she is petite like mommy. Anyways hubby told him that she will be staying right where she is and he finally said fine. Here she is in the front waiting (she is the one wearing purple in the middle with the white race shirt over top):

Here they go. As you can see they had two men there slowing them down which hubby thought was ridiculous. As you can see our daughter had to pull her brakes on here in this picture:

And here he is holding them back still.......just ridiculous. Just let the kids run!

There goes my future marathoner!

She is airborne:

And here she is coming back......do you see nobody really infront of her or around her:

And she crosses the finish line:

Woohoo.....she is a fabulous job. She was the first in her age group and she was the second girl overall, the first was about 11 years old. She did AMAZINGLY! So proud of my little runner!

As mommy was running the rest of her race, Marina went inside the club house and got her face painted. I thought that was a nice touch for the organizers to do and doesn't she look super cute:

Here are the two runners all happy that we both did so well:

Angus Glen provided all the runners a buffet lunch, including the kids. So my daughter and I went to grab a bite inside. It was a really nice touch and the food was delicious. I am very happy with this event and I will definately be running Angus Glen races again! It was a great way to end the season and now I have the new season to look forward to!

  5. Nice job! Congrats on your award too! Did they save it for you?

The guy behind you is not human; he looks so calm and relaxed, with no sign of being cold at all.

And the Kids' Race? Awesome, just awesome:)
