Disney Royal Family 5K Race Recap

Well it has been an interesting week. Yes I ran the Princess Half Marathon but that story will have to wait until I post about the other 2 races. But stay tuned, its an interesting story.

So on Saturday was the Disney Royal Family 5K race that I ran with my 8 year old daughter. I was so excited to run a race with her. Her longest race so far was a 1K so I as a bit nervous that she would fizzle towards the end.

We woke up nice and early for the 7am race start so it was still dark when we got to Epcot.

Marina and I were waiting patiently in our corral for the race to start.

Here is the start line:

And ofcourse Beauty and the Beast were there to start the race. Marina thought that was cool!

The start started with fireworks and we were off into the back of Epcot, so you can say we got a backstage tour....LOL
Marina and I stopped at all the character photo ops except one. Marina loved that part of the race, she loves the characters. Here is Mulan:

Snow White and Dopey!

Pocahontas

Jasmine & Aladdin
Oh we stopped for a quick drink of water!

Alice and Mad Hatter, they were our faves!

Towards the end of the race Marina and I were running really well together. When there was a crowd of people infront of us I would tell her to "go thru" and she would go and I would follow. Here we are coming to the finish line:

So we finished the race at 40 minutes which I think is fabulous for Marina's first 5K and stopping for character pictures and 2 water breaks. I am sooooo proud of my daughter for for running this race.
There we are with our medals. While I think the medal is beautiful, it is plastic which kind of cheapens the race and let me tell you there was nothing cheap about these Disney races.

Overall it was a fabulous experience and the course was excellent for a quick 5K. The opportunity to run this race with my daughter just made this so much more special.
