Run For Vaughan 10K & 3K Race Report

Yesterday I vented my fustration with this race, if you didn't read about it, check it out here. But here is a proper race recap.

Originally this past Sunday I was going to head to Buffalo to run the Buffalo Half Marathon and ofcourse do some over the border shopping but unfortunately that wasn't looking promising. I had looked at running the Ottawa Half and that had been sold out for along time and so was the Toronto Women Half, seriously I really need to register for races earlier. I started to search for a close to home race to run and I came up with Run For Vaughan. It was only a 45 minutes away from home, it was for a good cause, to raise money to make a hospital for the City of Vaughan and they had a 10K and a 3K. I thought PERFECT, I can run the 10K and then run the 3K with my daughter. So I signed up.

The 10K was first, at 8:30am, here is my daughter just hanging out wth me prior to the race.

The course was similar to the Southlake Half I ran earlier this year. It was a rolling hill course in the country which means....BORING. But I was enjoying the fabulous weather. It was getting warm and it was overcast so the sun wasn't beaming down to heat us all up. It was the perfect running morning. Unfortunately I did not have a perfect day. My legs felt really heavy. I had been doing incline training that week and prior and I think I over did it too close to a race. The hills were tough.

Here is a pic of my coming to the finish line. My daughter ran out to meet me and help me finish.

I was not pleased with my time:

So my stats on the 10K was:
(sorry no splits, I reset my Garmin to use for the 3K)

Chip Time - 53:56

Gender Rank - 11th out of 62

Category Rank - 5th out of 16

I finished the race right before 9:30am and the 3K was to start at 10:00am so I headed to my truck and got my other chip on and changed my bib and got ready to run again. Here is my daughter and I ready to race:

If you read my post from yesterday you know what a disasterous run the 3K was. But we did it and I loved running with my daughter again. She is too funny. We started running and right away she tells me to tell her when we hit the 1K mark so she can pace herself. I thought that was hilarious. She talked the whole 3K, that is my daughter, she is never quiet! She wanted us to hold hands when we crossed the finish line so here we are coming in, hand in hand:

WE DID IT!

We did pretty good, here are our 3K stats:

Chip Time - 16:19

Gender Rank - 12 & 13 out of 73

Marina's Category Rank - 3rd out of 6

My Category Rank - 7th out of 26

Let's just say I just wanted to leave when we were done but Marina had to get in come hugs:
