I Kept A Promise To Myself - Don't Run Sick AGAIN!

My Sunday did not start the way I had planned. I was suppose to run the Bread & Honey 15K Sunday morning but I got up at about 3am with a terrible sore throat. After running the Disney Princess Half Marathon as sick as a dog and after affects of doing that, I got Trigeminal Neuralgia because of running so sick, I made a promise to myself, I will never run sick again!

So I had to keep that promise to myself Sunday morning. Honestly it was very hard for me to back down from a commitment. I felt terrible all morning but since we had so many plans for after the race, we went on with our plans and it took my mind off of my disappointment.

As you all know Sunday was my husbands actual birthday. He had no issues with me running a race on his special day but once that was cancelled, we decided to have a nice breakfast at our local diner. After breakfast we headed out to go over the border into New York for some shopping.

Shopping was fabulous as usual. Honestly the price different between an item bought here in Canada versus bought in the USA is ridulous, especially when the dollars are at par with each other. Hubby wanted a new pair of Oakley sunglasses for his birthday, the same pair here was about $260, in the USA $160. He got replacement lenses for his old Oakleys, here I had to order them online for $160, in the USA we bought them in store for $65, now tell me how fair that is. I also picked up some snacks that are unavailable here. I think I really need to go shopping over the border more often.

After our short trip to the USA, we came back and I had planned to have a late lunch, it turned into an early dinner at a restaurant that is situated right beside an old shipwreck. Get it.....hubby is a technical cave/shipwreck scuba diver so I thought it would be perfect to have a meal next to the shipwreck. Corny I know but honestly whenever we head to Niagara Falls or New York State we always pass this shipwreck that is off the highway and I always wondered what his story was. So we stopped at the shipwreck to take a closer look.

Honestly she really is a beauty, an aged beauty but a beauty non the less. Many people think its an eye sore but I think their eyes are closed.
Her name is La Grande Hermine II and they wanted to turn her into a restaurant but vandals set her up in flames and there she still sits. We had to hike a bit to get some good pictures of her, but it was such a gorgeous day on Sunday, I really enjoyed the hike.

We then headed to the restaurant next door, The Lake House. We started with some cocktails, remember we are still celebrating hubbys birthday.

Marina enjoying her cocktail and look at the fabulous view we had from our table.

I have to say that the food was delicious. Here are our meals. I started with a Caesar Salad again, just like friday. I have to say fridays was better but this was a good second.

Hubby has the escargot again today, sounds like our friday dinner doesn't it. But it was served very differently. Hubby liked fridays a bit better, he thought this one was too rich.

Marina's entree was a kids pepperoni pizza, wow it was big in size. She did enjoy it!

Surprise, surprise I had the chicken again. But this one tasted much nicer. It had a cheese and red pepper melted in the middle and came with asparagus, I love asparagus. It was delicious.

Hubby had the salmon on a bed of rice and vegetable mixture, he said it was delicious.

For dessert they had these mini cheesecakes. They were just the right size for a little treat. I had the strawberry cheesecake, hubby had the blueberry and Marina had the chocolate chip. The first two were yummy, the chocolate chip had too many chocolate chips in them and was too rich.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day and our meal. Here is a family picture for you all to see.

Well I still feel like I didn't completely something I should have, I loved spending so much time with my family. My throat was sore all day and my nose was starting to run, yup the start of a cold coming, I guess I will need to babysit this cold for a bit!

  1. Good for you for listening to your body! I know that had to be so hard though. But, looks like you all had such a fantastic bday celebration. Hope you feel better soon.
