Tim Hortons Peachbud 10K Recap

My FIRST training has been going really well so I was anticipating an excellent race yesterday. I was running the Tim Hortons Peachbud 10K in Grimsby, Ontario for the second year in a row. I truly enjoyed it last year and its the race where I have my 10K PR. So I was hoping to get a new PR this year or atleast come very close to my time.

This is a 7:30pm race which I find I am thinking about the race all day and trying to not stress myself out during the day prior to the race. we got to the race site early beacuse I had to pick up my race kit. Last years race kit was dismal but they did add a few more items in this years kit, a good improvement:

The weather at home had turned greatly in the afternoon. The wind had really picked up and on the drive to Grimsby, which is 1.5 hours away, I was hoping they did not have the same wind. Well they did! I was really afraid that the wind would hold me back if it was frontal hitting wind.

They had a 1K and then a 5K start first and then the 10K started. Here I am waiting for the race to start with my cute cheerleader:

I am focusing and waiting patiently for the horn to sound:

Here is the starting line:

And there I am taking off:

And there I go:

And here I come towards the finish line. They had the finish line again on the grass which I really am not a fan of:

Look who was waiting for me:

DONE! It was not my best race by far. I did hit the front wind at the half way mark and a big highway overpass hill that slowed me down a bit but I was confident I could make up that time but with that frontal wind, forget it. I am really disappointed with my time but I did a bit of searching online and it looks like it was a slower race to most of the top runners so I guess it was meant to be.

So here are my stats:

Chip Time - 54:05 BLAH

Official Rank (out of 597 runners) - 285th

Gender Rank (out of 311) - 89th

Category rank (out of 65) - 20th

My splits:

1K - 7:44 (yup I was a bit quicker than I wanted....wanted to go out at 8:00 and keep it steady)

2K - 8:08 (looking good)

3K - 8:07 (feeling great)

4K - 8:30 (hill)

5K - 9:01 (the wind hit)

6K - 9:19 (more wind)

7K - 9:26 (even more wind)

8K - 9:16

9K - 8:46 (turned and wind was not head on)

10K - 8:13 (wasn't enough)

Overall Pace : 8:38 (via Garmin)

Still disappointed with this race but its done, lets move on. Next race is on Friday, Canada's Day!

  1. Oh that would suck to finish on grass. And I don't think that's a terrible time!

  2. I know it's all relative...but, I would love to run a 10K at that pace! Congrats :)

  3. You had a good run. Wind is a huge factor. It's tough not to go out too fast. You really have to have discipline for pacing.
    Great job!
